We Visit the Orchards
We don't list a mango variety until we've visited the source, tasted the fruit, and verified the agronomy. If we can't confirm the variety is true-to-type and the growing practices are sound, it doesn't go on the site.
WHY WE EXIST
India is the world's largest mango producer — 45% of global production. The country grows over 1,500 named cultivars, many of them confined to a single district, a handful of orchards, or even one village. Himsagar from Malda. Kohitur from Murshidabad. Noorjahan from Alirajpur. Varieties that have been growing for hundreds of years and that most Indians have never heard of.
Meanwhile, our city markets are saturated with generic mangoes sold under premium names. Non-Konkan fruit sold as Alphonso. Unknown cultivars sold as Kesar. Unverified fruit sold at verified prices.
The problem is not supply. India grows enough of the right mangoes. The problem is access — and trust. We are building both.
The country grows 1,500 varieties. We want you to taste at least thirty.
OUR SOURCING MODEL
Every mango on MangoShop.in comes from a specific farm in a specific district. We know the grower's name. We know the variety. We know the harvest date. That information travels with every order.
We don't list a mango variety until we've visited the source, tasted the fruit, and verified the agronomy. If we can't confirm the variety is true-to-type and the growing practices are sound, it doesn't go on the site.
Variety, origin district, harvest date, and farmer name travel with every shipment. You're not buying "mango." You're buying Ratnagiri Alphonso, Batch 14, harvested April 22nd from a specific cooperative in Devgad taluka.
We don't ship off-season mangoes or cold-stored substitutes. If the variety isn't in season, that page says so. We'd rather lose an order than ship a mango that doesn't represent the variety at its best.
WHERE WE SOURCE
India's best mangoes are regional — defined by soil, water, microclimate, and the farming knowledge accumulated across generations. We source from six belts, each with its own character.
ALPHONSO (HAPUS), PAYRI, RATNAGIRI MANGO
Alphonso. Laterite soil + Konkan sea breeze. The origin of the world's most exported mango.
Why We Source Here
No substitute for genuine Konkan Alphonso. The GI tag exists for a reason — we verify it before every season.
KESAR (GIR KESAR), LANGDO, DESI
Kesar. Rocky limestone soil at the base of the Gir hills. Saffron flesh, floral sweetness.
Why We Source Here
Kesar from the Gir belt is distinguishable from Kesar grown anywhere else. We source only from Junagadh cooperative-registered farmers.
DASHERI, LANGRA, CHAUNSA, SAFEDA, AMRAPALI, MALLIKA
30,000+ acres of orchard. India's most diverse single mango-growing belt. Dasheri originated here.
Why We Source Here
North India's mango heartland. Closer to Delhi/NCR than any other major mango-producing region — shorter transit, better freshness.
HIMSAGAR, LANGRA (BENGAL), FAZLI, KOHITUR
Alluvial Ganga-Mahananda soil. Himsagar from Malda is considered by many to be the sweetest mango in India.
Why We Source Here
West Bengal's mango culture is distinct and deeply regional. Himsagar doesn't travel well, which is why most Indians have never had it. We handle it carefully.
MIYAZAKI, NOORJAHAN (SOURCED FROM ALIRAJPUR)
Pioneer of Indian Miyazaki cultivation. Alirajpur's tribal forest belt for Noorjahan.
Why We Source Here
Two of India's rarest, most talked-about mangoes come from MP. We work directly with the small number of farmers who grow them.
TOTAPURI, BADAMI, SINDHURA, BANGANAPALLI, HIMAYAT, RASPURI, KALAPADI
South India's most diverse mango belt. Totapuri dominates commercially; Badami and Sindhura are the local prestige varieties.
Why We Source Here
South India's mango culture is underrepresented in the national market. We want to change that.
WHAT WE STAND FOR
Every mango on MangoShop.in comes from a specific farm in a specific district. We know the grower's name. We know the variety. We know the harvest date. That information travels with every order.
A mango sold as Alphonso must be Alphonso — from the right geography, the right variety, the right season. This sounds obvious. In practice, it is rare. We verify origin on every batch, every season, every year. If we can't verify it, we don't sell it. Full stop.
We list varieties as "out of season" when they are out of season. We don't sell cold-stored mangoes from the previous harvest. We don't extend a season artificially with chemicals. The mango on your table came from a tree in the current season. This is non-negotiable.
The farmer growing Ratnagiri Alphonso earns more when they sell to us than when they sell into the commodity chain. Direct buying at verified prices, no race to the bottom on cost. The mango market has historically squeezed farmers at every point in the supply chain. We're trying to do the opposite.

THE TEAM
MangoShop.in is a small team of people who believe India's mango landscape deserves better representation. We are not a faceless logistics operation. We are enthusiasts who drive to Ratnagiri every April, eat too much Himsagar every June, and argue about whether Alphonso or Kesar is better at least four times a week. (The answer is both. The answer is always both.)
Finally found a source for real Ratnagiri Alphonso. The difference from market mangoes is night and day.
The Miyazaki mango was everything I'd read about — and more. Worth every rupee.”
Ordered Himsagar for the first time — I didn't even know this variety existed before. Absolutely incredible..
We're always looking to add verified varieties and new sourcing regions. If you grow a named variety with verified origin and strong agricultural practices, we'd like to talk. We buy at fair direct prices, no auction, no middlemen.
