It's a rolling season — beginning with Alphonso on the Konkan coast in March and closing with Neelam in South India in August or September. SEASON OVERVIEW
Mango season in India officially starts in March, when the earliest Alphonso orchards in Ratnagiri begin harvesting. However, the full season — when most varieties are simultaneously available — runs from May to July. The season ends gradually, with some South Indian varieties (Neelam, Imam Pasand) available through August and even September in some years.
Mango season is not uniform across India. A mango lover in Maharashtra gets Alphonso from March; someone in UP waits until June for Dasheri. Plan accordingly.

Early Season
The mango season begins on the Konkan coast as the earliest Alphonso orchards in Ratnagiri and Devgad start harvesting. Goa's Mankurad, which opens as early as January in a warm year, is already in full flow. Volumes are limited and quality is exceptional — this is when serious mango buyers place their first orders.
Early–Mid Season
April is the start of the main season for South India and the peak of early Alphonso season. Banganapalli, Safeda, and Totapuri arrive in quantity. Alphonso peaks toward the end of April.
Peak Season
May is the most abundant month of the mango season. Nearly every major variety is available simultaneously. This is when online orders are at their highest and when you get the best value for money.

Only a few varieties remain available by August. Neelam from South India is the last major variety still in season. Prices stabilize but selection thins significantly.
ANNUAL CELEBRATION
National Mango Day in India is celebrated on July 22nd every year. This date falls in the heart of late mango season, when Chaunsa, Rajapuri, and Fazli varieties are at peak availability.
The day is observed to celebrate India's status as the world's leading mango producer. Many farmer cooperatives and agricultural bodies organise events, tastings, and exhibitions around this date.
CLARIFICATION
“Mango showers” are pre-monsoon rain events in Kerala, Karnataka, and coastal Andhra Pradesh — typically in March and April. Despite the name, they have nothing to do with mango harvest dates. They're called mango showers because they coincide with the mango blooming season, when the fragrance of mango blossoms fills the air. They actually benefit the mango crop by providing moisture at flowering time.
